Welcome from the Interim Executive Headteacher…
Welcome to Grays Convent School
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Grays Convent School.
As Interim Executive Headteacher, I feel privileged to lead a school, with Mr O'Hanlon as Head of School, with such a rich history, strong sense of community and distinctive Catholic identity. Founded by the Sisters of La Sainte Union, their legacy continues to shape who we are and, importantly, who we aspire to be.
At the heart of our school is our motto:
“We Are One With God” – “Nous Sommes Un Avec Dieu”.
These words express our belief that every girl is precious, uniquely gifted and created with a purpose. Our responsibility is to help each young woman discover her gifts, develop them with confidence and use them for the good of others.
Our vision is both simple and ambitious: to develop and empower young women to discover and realise their full potential. We want our girls to be academically ambitious, intellectually curious and courageous in their aspirations, while also being compassionate, grounded and committed to making a positive difference in the world.
The Sisters of La Sainte Union called us to be “at the heart of the world, revealing God’s love.” This remains central to our school today. We strive to create a community where every girl feels valued and respected, where relationships matter and where everyone is encouraged to flourish, irrespective of their faith background.
Our five core values – unity, prayer, worship, service and work – underpin our shared life.
We believe in the importance of unity and belonging; in prayer and worship as ways of placing God at the centre of our lives; in service to others and our wider community; and in the value of work, commitment, perseverance and striving for excellence.
Our aspiration is not simply for academic success, but for our girls to become young women of character, integrity, faith, compassion and confidence. We want them to leave Grays Convent ready not only for their next stage of education or employment, but for life – with a love of learning, a sense of purpose and a determination to contribute to the world around them.
As we look to the future, we will honour the heritage entrusted to us by the Sisters of La Sainte Union while continuing to respond courageously to the opportunities and challenges facing our young women.
To our students, I will say: dream boldly, work hard, care deeply and never underestimate what you can become.
To our families, thank you for entrusting your daughters to us. And to all our visitors and friends of Grays Convent, I offer a very warm welcome. I hope that when you spend time with us, you experience the warmth, ambition, faith and sense of family that make this school so special.
Together, may we continue to inspire our girls to discover their God-given gifts, fulfil their potential and live life to the full.
We are one with God, and with each other.
Welcome to Grays Convent School.
